ATTRACTIONS
View from Glencairn House

Welcome to Letterkenny, Donegal's principal town and the ideal location to base yourself for a holiday in Donegal and Ireland's beautiful North West region. If you are looking for an ideal touring base with a warm, relaxed ambience, friendly, outgoing people, a wealth of restaurants, pubs, entertainment...look no further than Letterkenny!

Poised at the mouth of the deep and lovely Lough Swilly, the town grew in the 17th century from a small fishing village to a prosperous town and the Ecclesiastical Seat for the Diocese of Raphoe. Letterkenny's name comes from the Irish Leitir Ceannain, meaning Hillside of the O'Canainn clan, the earliest recorded overlords of the Swilly region. Letterkenny is now a busy working town but with all the major amenities needed to allow visitors a holiday to remember.

Come and stay for a night, a weekend or a week and we know that you will be back for a longer period. We will be only too happy to help plan your exploration of our beautiful and fascinating county. Listed below are just a small selection of what Letterkenny...and Donegal in general...has to offer. We have also included a few Northern Ireland attractions which can be reached within one and a half hour's drive from Letterkenny.
