The Old Welchtown School

The old school in Welchtown was opened as a National School on the 1st April 1867. This was a one-roomed building and a second room was added in 1911. It remained the primary National School for the Church of Ireland population until 1962.

The New Welchtown School

The new Welchtown school was opened by Mr Joe Brennan TD on October 24th 1962. The site for this school was donated by Matthew Kee, Highview. Mr Joe McMenamin of Stranorlar was the contractor who built it. The school is built on a height overlooking the River Finn and visitors often comment on the location and the lovely scenery of the area. Cloughroe School was amalgamated with Welchtown in 1972 and the children transported each day to it.
