A homemade weather guide was invented generations ago by some enterprising person, and, it was used extensively in Glenfin until comparatively recent times when more sophisticated weather forecasts were beamed into their homes by radio and television.

Many still believe and rely on traditional ways of predicting the weather and regard them as more accurate and dependable.

A Traditional Weather Guide

A mineral or beer bottle was placed upside down in a jam jar. Water was poured into the jam jar until the surface of the water reached the neck of the bottle. Then, it was placed on a shelf or windowsill.

When the water rose in the neck of the bottle, good weather was on the way, but when the level of the water lowered in the neck of the bottle, bad weather with heavy rain was predicted.
