CAPTURE OF DALY'S COLUMN
FLYING COLUMN CAPTURED
Big Coup effected in Donegal Area: Party surprised.
National Troops, stationed in North-West Tirconnaill, effected
the capture of a section of Sean Lehane's Flying Column at Meenabuem
Dunlewey, in the vicinity of Errigal Mountain.
The party, which included Charles Daly, Lehane's right hand man
in the district, were completely taken by surprise. Some were in
bed, while others, seated around the fireside, bore traces of having
undergone much hardships. All were heavily armed with rifles, revolvers,
hand grenades and bombs. They were removed to the National Army
Headquarters at Falcarragh.

The following official statement was issued from Army HQ on Saturday:
A Flying Column of Irregulars were captured at Meenabue, Dunlewey,
last night at 8:30 by troops operating from Glenveigh and Dungloe.
Charles Daly, late of Second Northern Division was in charge.
List of arms and ammunition captured - 7 rifles, 5 revolvers, 500
rounds .303, 70 rounds .450, 4 bandoliers, 1 pair field glasses,
1 wallet, 3 Sam Browne's, 4 holsters, 1 compass, 1 bomb - German
egg.
The names of those captured are - C Daly, Kerry; D Enright, Kerry;
T O'Sullivan, Kerry; J Lane, Cork; J Larkin, Magherafelt; J Donahy,
Limavady; D Coyle; F Ward, Dunfanaghy.
Charles Daly was charged with having possession on the 2nd November
1922, in the house of John Sharkey, Meenabull, Dunlewey, Gweedore,
together with John Larkin, Daniel Enright, James J Donaghy, Frank
Ward, Daniel Coyle at present in military custody at Drumboe Castle,
without proper authority of - 3 rifles, 1 revolver, 300 rounds .303
ammunition, 6 rounds .45 ammunition, one German egg bomb.
