INCIDENT AT DERRY CHURCH
To the Editor of The Derry Journal.
Sir. - The report appearing in your columns of the raid by
"Specials" on St. Columb's Church, Waterside, is
misleading and inaccurate in several respects.
The account given conveys the impression that the police
discovered men outside the Church, and then afterwards entered.
This is not so. At no time was any of the party, forming the
guard of honour over the body of Sean Larkin, outside in the
Church grounds or in the street. The first intimation of police
intrusion was a rapping on the Church door, which, on being
opened, admitted two officers of the night "watchmen"
who inquired what was going on, and on being told, decided
to take all the names and addresses. Probably, their attention
was attracted by the hammering of the undertaker in draping
the coffin. I trust you will give this correction the same
publicity as the original report.

THE LIBERATED PRISONERS
Presentation of Rosary Beads at the Hospital.
On Sunday and yesterday all the liberated prisoners in the
Mater and Jervis Street and St. Vincent's were each presented
with valuable steel beads, by Canon Downing, St. Joseph's,
Berkely Street, in everlasting memory of the Rosaries recited
by the people for their liberation, and of the Rosary ordered
by the Archbishop of Dublin for "their spiritual and
temporal welfare," and in grateful remembrance of the
gallant and triumphant struggle they made for the liberties
of their native land.
