On the last day of December, 1999, the first seconds of the new
millennium in the Finn Valley were counted in on the old Stranorlar
Railway Station clock, restored and mounted in a specially-designed
tower on the Main Street.
The last train ever to pull into Stranorlar station arrived
at 8.20 p.m. on December 31st, 1959, and in those forty years, the
station clock had been held in storage.
As a millennium project, a local development group teamed up with
Donegal County Council to have the clock remounted on the Main Street.
A Dublin architect, Mr Martin Henchion, came up with the winning
design for the new clock tower, a beacon-like stainless steel structure,
lighting up the surrounding area. Now, in 2002, the Millennium Clock
Tower is becoming as familiar a sight as the old Station House was
in years gone by.

Around the original station yard, a beautiful stone
wall encapsulating a stone bench has been built (immediately next
to the clock). Set into the back of the seat is the above commemorative
plaque.
