THEOBALD WOLFE TONE
(1763 - 1798) United Irishman
Born 20th Jun 1763, 44 Stafford Street (Wolfe Tone Street), Dublin

Son of a coach-maker; educated at Trinity College Dublin and the Middle Temple, London. Called to the bar in 1789 but had little inclination for the practice of law, and soon turned to politics. In 1791 he published a pamphlet, An Argument on Behalf of the Catholics of Ireland, and the same year founded the Society of United Irishmen with Thomas Russell and James Napper Tandy.
