| Tory Island |
Tory Island lies 10 miles out in
the Atlantic. The islands remoteness has been
a factor in the preservation of the native Irish
language, traditions, songs, dances and way of life.
Tory has its own indigenous school of painters.
The geography and location of Oileán Thoraigh
off the North West Coast make it an ideal destination
for the ornithologist wishing to study the many
species of sea birds which inhabit the island. The
island has a hotel, a hostel and a number of B&Bs.
There is an Art Gallery, a Tea and Craft Shop, a
Diving Centre, a shop and a social club. Tory offers
the pleasures of the past, with todays modern
conveniences. Transport to and from the island is
by boat from Bunbeg and Magheroarty. |

| Gola Island |
Gola Island is situated just 1 mile
off the coast of Gweedore. This sunny and deserted
Island offers you the chance to get away from it
all and unwind with the sound of the sea and plentiful
bird life. Gola is easily walked in a few hours
and offers splendid views of the surrounding Islands,
reefs and mainland. The island was populated up
until the mid 1960's. Today the only evidence of
past life on the island is the stone ruins of what
were once houses. On Gola, many of the houses have
been recently renovated as interest has returned
to the island and its way of life. |
